The effect is that of a refrain in a song, such as a lullaby in this "Song of Innocence." The speaker is even a child. ![]() ![]() Structure Īt first glance, this poem appears to consist of rhyming couplets, and the first and last couplet in the first stanza could be said to exhibit identical rhyme however, the rhyme is an exact repeat of the three last words, or phrase, "who made thee," and the last couplet is a repetition of the first verbatim. ![]()

5/13/2023 0 Comments Snowballs by Lois Ehlert![]() We talked about the different coloured hats after we sang the rhyme. But they were super easy to free hand – just cut out the shapes you want and hot glue them together. Here’s how I adapted the rhyme:Īs with all my felt stories and songs, these snow people aren’t perfect and they’re definitely not complex. Whatever the kids say, that’s what we sing. Most of them said, “snow dads!” but you could also have snow moms, snow boys, snow girls, snow babies, or a snow granny or grandpa. ![]() When I presented it in storytime I asked the kids who these snow people might be. My Flannel Friday submission this week is what I made to accompany Ehlert’s book.įirst I found this snowmen rhyme on Sunflower Storytime. I’m always delighted by Ehlert’s found object art and playful language. I love this book – it’s just right for a mix of toddlers and preschoolers. Since I knew many of my storytime kids were experiencing their first snowy winters here, I decided to read Snowballs by Lois Ehlert in storytime. Shane was the aggressor and Gabriel was the manipulator. Shane warred within himself over his feelings/cravings for Gabriel and denied that he was gay because he wasn't, was he? Well it was a strange feeling to be desiring a man and Gabriel used this to sort of take advantage of the fact that Shane was not in control of his feelings.
